Re: Public Records Act request — instructional and district records, [School District]

Dear Custodian of Records:

Pursuant to the California Public Records Act, Cal. Gov. Code § 7920.000 et seq., I request copies of the following records of [School District]:

This request covers records from the current and immediately preceding school year.

Preferred form of production: Electronic copies by email.

Under Government Code § 7922.535, the district must determine within 10 calendar days whether this request seeks disclosable records, and may extend that period by no more than 14 days only in the unusual circumstances the statute enumerates, with written notice stating the reasons.

I request a waiver or reduction of any duplication fees. This request is made in the public interest by a parent seeking to understand the instruction provided to students, and it is not for a commercial purpose. If electronic copies are available, I request them in their existing electronic format at no charge, as contemplated by Government Code § 7922.575. If fees will nonetheless exceed $25, please contact me before incurring them.

If the district withholds records, Government Code § 7922.540 requires a written response justifying the withholding by citing the specific exemption relied upon.

If any portion of a responsive record is exempt, please redact the exempt portion and produce the remainder, as segregability requires. If you believe any part of this request is unclear or overbroad, please contact me so we can narrow it rather than denying it outright.

Authorities relied upon: Cal. Gov. Code § 7920.000 et seq..

Thank you for your assistance.

Sincerely,
[Your name]
